How to attract visitors?

This question is most likely asked billion times a day. But the solution to the problem concerning the lack of visitors and answer to this question is not so simple as the question. In this article, we will be defining some basic points concerning this question, in order to make the problem more understandable. Let's see who are your friends when visitors are in question.

First of all, it is important to know that search engines (in further text SE) are the best friend you have, when it comes to visitors. But once again it's not as easy as it sounds. Although SE can provide traffic, the amount of traffic depends on how good your rankings are. If you have a brand new website, don't try to optimise it for keywords that are widely spread across the internet, but rather conduct a specific keyword research and wisely choose the keywords you find appropriate. For example, in stead of choosing one of your keywords to be "web design", add something specific to it and make it be "web design Belgium".

Your second best friends are link directories. For entering into big directories, like Yahoo and DMOZ , it will take some time, especially with DMOZ. Anyhow, submitting to smaller directories is also a good option. But be careful and try to avoid reciprocal linking, since it is pr oven not to have a very good influence on your SE (especially Google) rankings. Submitting to specific web directories however, can be a good starting point. Also, take your time and submit to Klik Klik Directory, it's free, fast and no reciprocal links are needed.

Third place belongs to forums and online communities. Most of your interaction with other people today goes through such communities, and if you are a webmaster, most likely that you will be a part of webmaster communities such as Site Owners Forum. They have a great influence to the number of visits you get, since the more you are active on the forums in terms of high quality posts and advices, the more is your link in the signature shown, and that can attract quite some visitors to your web pages. On the other hand, it is also good for the forums, since it's reputation grows higher, which usually attracts more members, and it directly leads to a much greater number of people seeing your website link.

Search for websites on similar topic and try to establish a link exchange or some kind of partnership program with them. That will benefit both you and your partners website, since people visiting their pages will be potential guests on your pages, and that also works the other way round. Do some research, find the websites you think that could be your partners, contact them (most webmasters will be glad to exchange links with you if you have good content), offer them what you have, and open another doorway to your website.

Those were some basic thing you should do in order to get free traffic. There are also things that were not mentioned in this article, but on your way with previous steps, you'll get to know few tips and tricks, and finding new ways yourself should not be hard. Now it is all up to you, good luck!
